It is a metaphor for an uncognizable future.

However, in Zegna's picture the main visual element isn't the landscape, but the human being. Here, the landscape is an icon of Nature to admire in its sublimity. In the Friedrich's painting, the observer identifies himself with the man who observes, and in turn contemplates the future.

In Zegna's picture the spectator admires the elegant man that in turn admires the Nature of which he is part.

Wood is an evocative element of authenticity, symbol of tradition and respect for natural rhythms.

Velvet has been chosen for its characteristics, which evoke warmth and protection. These feelings are generated by semantic, metric and optical categories used to create the dress. It's a wide, soft, warm, heavy, compact, durable gar-ment, ideal for dealing with the cold weather, but with an elegant and natural shape.

The choice of colour is very important and refers to an autumn chromatic feeling. The man in Zegna’s picture appears in perfect synergy with the surrounding ambient, he dominates it but he's completely integrated.
